| The Strange Fruit Food Co-op project was set up by the Haggerston, Whitmore and Kingsland Estates Tenants and Residents Association (HAWK-TRA). The food co-op aims to improve the diet of residents and thus improve their health by: offering an inexpensive, accessible, local supply of fresh fruit and vegetables via a food market and a door to door delivery service; monitoring the health needs of residents; doing outreach work and health promotion and educational events. |

| Major contributors to the funding includes the European Regional Development Fund, Kings fund, the heart of the East End Urban Initiative and Canalside Housing Partnership and the City and East London Health Authority | |

| At present the Co-op sells fresh fruits and vegetables every Thursday in the Main Hall situated at the Community Centre, between 11:00AM - 1:45PM. And at Provost Estate Community Hall every Trusday Between 3:30 - 5:30pm. Alternatively there is a door to door scheme which allows local residents to order their groceries on Tuesdays and receive delivery either on a Thursday or Friday. | |
