Appendix Code of Conduct adopted September 1998. Code of Conduct and Complaints Procedure for Management Committee members [Passed Monday 7th Sept. 1998]

Code of Conduct: Management Committee members will: a] act in accordance with the TA Constitution b] work safely - report any accidents, follow safety codes, and not risk injury or danger to themselves or others. c] work honestly - not accept any bribes and respect and honour property of the HTA and Area Trust. d] show respect to other Management Committee members, tenants and members of the local community - not threaten, fight or assault anyone. e] comply with the HTA Equal Opportunities policy - not discriminate on the grounds of race, sex or sexual preference, religious beliefs, ethnic or national background, disability, illness [including HIV] or marital status. Complaints Procedure:Stage 1] To take no longer than 1 month You should inform the Chair [or Vice Chair if the complaint is about the Chair] of the TA in writing, the letter being marked private and confidential. Assistance is available from TA workers, Chair or Vice Chair, if you need it to put your complaint in writing. The chair will try to resolve the matter with the relevant MC member at this stage to the satisfaction of the person making the complaint. Stage 2] To take no longer than 1 month The Chair will refer the matter to an agreed independent third party for mediation. This 3rd Party could be: - Chair or Secretary of the Area Trust - Chair of another TA in Hackney or member of the Federation of Hackney TRAs Executive - Someone else whom both parties can agree on Stage 3] To take no longer than 2 months If efforts to resolve the matter by mediation have failed the matter can be taken to a TA General Meeting. 21 days notice must be given to the TA secretary of the following motion: "To amend the TA Constitution at Point 6 to give a new point f] A General Meeting can by a two thirds majority vote remove a TA Management Committee member from their post." At the General Meeting both sides can put their case and on a two thirds majority vote the MC Member can be disciplined. Using this complaints procedure does not stop you from using legal methods of redress. |
